CERN Document Server (CDS)

Provides document repositories containing over 1 million bibliographic records, more than 400,000 full text documents, of interest to people working in particle physics and related areas. Material covered includes preprints, articles, books, journals, photos, and videos, and services include the provision of:

  • An institutional repository for CERN documents, to organize and manage them in collections, and to archive them
  • A disciplinary archive, INSPIRE, for the HEP community in collaboration with the CERN Library and the libraries of SLAC, DESY, and Fermilab.
  • The workflows for electronic submissions of documents from inside and outside of CERN.
  • Support for the electronic version of bulletins, e.g., the CERN bulletin, CMS Bulletin, Staff Association.
  • The software, Invenio, that enables the construction of a digital repository for all types of documents.
  • The software to manage the day-to-day operations of the CERN Library: requesting works, borrowing works, accessing periodicals.
  • The software allowing the communication of physics research progress, discussion between stakeholders, and approval of results.

Collaborative Services

Provides tools and facilities in support of remote collaborations; including:

  • Videoconference and phone conference solutions, equipped conference rooms.
  •  The CERN Indico (Integrated Digital Conference Service) software to help you manage your conferences, time-tables of meetings, to attach multimedia files to each meeting item, and to store the resulting events in a multi-level hierarchical tree through the Web.
  • A service of public information screens scattered around CERN sites.

Audiovisual Service

Responsible for the recording and archiving of lectures and meetings at CERN, and in particular they can:

  • Provide support in the CERN main auditoria, and maintain the equipment inside these rooms.
  • Record events in selected rooms and provide a live webcast.
  • Film and edit videos related to the life at CERN and the main technical and scientific achievements of the lab.

Print Services

Provide the infrastructure for individual and bulk printing at CERN including:

  • A Printing Service, which provides a central printing interface, giving access to all CERN centrally registered network printers, plotters, and multifunction copiers. This service is responsible for standard printers, faxes, and photocopier / multifunction machines and liaison between the different services at CERN with the users (e.g., CERN Stores, printer support, print infrastructure, Finance, etc.).
  • A CERN Printshop, which offers standard printing services on high-volume, fast machines for producing professional documents in black and white and/or colour in A4 and A3, on paper or card, with a variety of finishes such as stapling or binding.

Scientific Text Processing (STP)

A small team of specialists in computer-aided publishing:

  • Provides support for CERN Reports approved by the CERN Reports Editorial Board (CREB).
  • Can help users with copy-editing.
